Weisenhaus speaks at Columbia’s Global Freedom of Expression conference

Weisenhaus Columbia March 2015Associate Professor Doreen Weisenhaus was one of the speakers at Columbia University’s second annual Global Freedom of Expression and Information conference, “Justice for Free Expression in 2014.” The March 10-11, 2015 conference featured presentations from leading scholars, lawyers and other experts from around the world.

Conference participants discussed trends over the previous 12 months in jurisprudence and litigation regarding freedom of expression in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Americas. The conference also identified cases to watch in the coming year. Weisenhaus spoke on legal trends in Hong Kong, including those involving Occupy Central protests, and in China, bringing attention to the detention of civil rights lawyer Pu Zhiqiang.

Since 2014, Weisenhaus has served as a member of the expert panel and working group for Columbia University’s Global Freedom of Expression Project.
